About EV Charging in Lahore

Punjab's EV Charging Hub

Lahore has emerged as one of Pakistan's most EV-friendly cities. With over 18 registered charging stations spread across commercial corridors, malls, and petrol stations, city driving on a single charge is increasingly practical.

DC Fast Charging

Lahore's DC fast charging is anchored by Go Green Main Boulevard Gulberg (60kW, 24 hours) — the only round-the-clock DC fast charger in the city centre. Go Green Emporium Mall adds a second DC option in the western commercial belt, and the Dongfeng dealership on the Gulberg strip offers DC charging for both CCS2 and GB/T connectors. For inter-city departures, PSO Magic River near the M-2 on-ramp provides a DC top-up before joining the motorway to Islamabad.

AC Charging in Lahore

AC destination charging in Lahore runs through the city's major retail belt. Go Green Emporium Mall and Go Green Packages Mall offer 22kW AC chargers in their parking areas — ideal for a full session during a 60–90 minute shopping stop. Johar Town and Main Boulevard Gulberg have AC charger installations at commercial plazas serving daily city drivers. AC charging in Lahore is mature enough that most residents rely on it for all non-urgent top-ups.

Charging Networks

Go Green is Lahore's dominant private charging network, operating the critical 24-hour Gulberg DC station and multiple mall destinations. PSO covers the motorway approach points on the M-2 and M-3 corridors. Dealership-linked chargers from Dongfeng and BYD are typically open to the public during business hours and serve Chinese EV owners who need GB/T DC access.

Practical advice · 3 quick tips

EV Driving Tips for Lahore

Go Green Gulberg on Main Boulevard operates round the clock — Lahore's most central 24-hour fast charger. Ideal for late arrivals and early departures without mall dependency.

Motorway-Ready City

Heading to Islamabad? M-2 has DC charging at PSO Magic River (km 25) and Bhera (120kW, km 200). Charge to 100% in Lahore before joining for the most comfortable 375km run.

Looking ahead · 2026–2027 outlook

Future of EV Charging Infrastructure in Lahore

Lahore is on course for a significant EV charging expansion through 2026–2027. The Go Green network has announced multiple new stations across DHA Lahore, Defence Road, and the Bahria Town corridor. Punjab's Green Mobility Policy mandates EV charging infrastructure at all new commercial developments above a certain floor area threshold — meaning every major new mall and plaza opening in Lahore will include public chargers. LESCO's smart metering rollout is enabling time-of-use EV tariffs that will make overnight home charging even cheaper. The M-3 motorway (Lahore–Faisalabad) and M-4 (Lahore–Multan) are both receiving PSO charging investments at service areas, extending Lahore's EV reach into interior Punjab. A proposed Lahore EV taxi programme with designated urban charging hubs is under planning by the Punjab Urban Mobility Authority.

8 questions
Can I drive from Lahore to Islamabad in an EV without stopping?
Most modern EVs with 70kWh+ batteries (BYD Atto 3, Polestar 2) can complete the 375km M-2 route on a single charge in ideal conditions. However, for safety and comfort, a 25–30 minute stop at Bhera Service Area is recommended for most EVs. The DC 120kW charger at Bhera takes your battery from 20% to 80% in about 25 minutes.
Where is the EV charging station on M-2 motorway?
The main mid-route DC fast charger on M-2 is at Bhera Service Area, approximately 200km from Lahore. There are also chargers at the Lahore end near PSO Magic River (km 25) and at the Islamabad end near Aramco aStop. The Bhera charger operates at 120kW and supports CCS2 connectors.
Is there food available at EV charging stops on M-2?
Yes. Bhera Service Area has a 24/7 McDonald's, PSO Food Court, and a prayer hall. The PSO Magic River stop near Lahore has a food pavilion. Aramco aStop near Islamabad has a café and convenience store. All three stops have clean toilet facilities.
Can I drive from Lahore to Faisalabad in an EV?
Yes. The M-3 motorway is 110km — well within single-charge range for all modern EVs. A BYD Atto 3 (420km range) or MG ZS EV (340km range) can complete the Lahore–Faisalabad route without any mid-route charging stop. Faisalabad has PSO charging stations with DC fast chargers near the Clock Tower and M-3 interchange.
How long does the Lahore to Faisalabad EV drive take?
The M-3 motorway drive takes approximately 1.5 hours at motorway speeds. With a 25–30 minute DC fast charging stop in Faisalabad (if needed), total travel time is under 2 hours. No charging stop mid-route is required for most EVs.
Can I drive from Lahore to Multan in an EV?
Yes. The M-4 motorway is 340km. A BYD Atto 3 (420km rated range) can complete this route on a single charge if departing at 90%+ charge in optimal conditions. An MG ZS EV (340km rated range) will require a mid-route charging stop, ideally at Khanewal (~280km mark). Charge to 100% at Multan PSO before continuing south on M-5.
Is there DC fast charging between Lahore and Multan?
DC fast charging availability mid-route on M-4 is limited and not fully confirmed at all service areas as of May 2026. The safest strategy is to depart Lahore with a 90–100% charge and plan a precautionary stop at Khanewal service area (~280km) if needed. The Multan M-4/M-5 PSO interchange has confirmed 24-hour DC fast charging (CCS2).
What happens after Multan on the Lahore to Karachi EV route?
After Multan, the M-5 heads south toward Sukkur and then Karachi. The Multan-to-Karachi section (approximately 900km) currently has limited confirmed public charging infrastructure. Multan to Karachi in a single charge is not feasible for most EVs. This section of the Lahore–Karachi corridor requires careful planning and is expected to improve as M-5 service area infrastructure develops.
